![]() ![]() ![]() Strikes me that a really big spring like you find on a garage door opener would be able to perform a similar function with just a means to adjust a positive stop on the foremost position added to let you set the finger parallel to the front axle. I would love to see that video Yes, the pony tops the scales at 3000lb without fluids/attachments and it has a transmission driven pto so it can be less than fun at times when things start to go wrong.ĭoes this help at all? It mentions how to set the breakback and things, but I guess you have similar already. With a sickle mower I can be off to the side out of harms way. The problem with that was the big seed heads coming back over the bucket and attacking me plus getting into every nook and cranny in the tractor. Last year I used my bucket tractor to knock them down then mowed with the flail mower. The plan is to use the sickle mower this fall when I cut down the acre of sunflowers I planted. Of course it has to be replaced from inside the rear end. I got tangled up with my 7 foot flail mower and managed to break that pin. Right now I have the tractor in the shop with the right side trumpet off the rear end to replace the mount for the 3 point lift arm. Parts drawing doesn't show allot of detail on the business end and both of the units I have are missing parts.Īnyone think of a better solution than a shear bolt?ĭon't think my ~5000 pound Ford 3600 will pivot if I hit an immovable object with the sickle bar, something is going to break. I have not been able to figure out exactly how the original worked. The original breakaway mechanism could be reset (re-latched) by simply backing up which brought the sickle bar back into position. The down side is it won't be easily reset after it has sheared. This would probably save the tractor and the break force could be adjusted by the size of the shear bolt or pin. ![]() The simplest solution I can think of would be a couple pieces of telescoped pipe or tubing cross drilled with a shear bolt. A solid bar will make the mower function but should the sickle bar hit something it is going to tear up expensive hard to replace parts which could include the tractor hitch. On both the mowers I have the breakaway mechanism has been defeated (welded) or removed and replaced with a solid bar. These mowers came with a breakaway mechanism that released if the sickle hit a non movable object however the design must not have worked very well. New parts are non existent other than a few generic cutter blade parts. I actually have two complete mowers but one is basically a parts machine. I am resurrecting a Ford 3 point 8 foot sickle mower. I need some sort of breakaway mechanism for an 8 foot sickle mower.īack story. ![]()
